Are Apple & Google the (un)elected presidents of America?

“In fiscal year 2020, Apple posted the highest net revenue of any company in the world, with profits of 57.4 billion U.S. dollars”. Source: http://www.macrotrends.net

It only takes a quick search on, funnily enough, Google to find that out. Fast forward two years later to the third of January, a valuation eclipsing twelve zeroes (000,000,000,000), just how much pull does that bring them ? Just a slender $3 trillion, their influence on the west is surely almighty. Poor Google though, it’s parent company ‘Alphabet’ only fetched in a whopping market valuation of $1.5 trillion. We see every day how much pull the billionaire bourgeoisie have on our press and governments over here. What are they doing across the pond with 4,500 billions between them !

Apple and Google. Their products do the business. Simple. You don’t even have time to think of the answer to a question anymore. Google it ! 2 seconds ! “No sorry your wrong Google says…”

Basic features make them easy to operate. Google is self explanatory. Apple ? Their products are so simple, even the older generation are binning the Nokia and are rapidly becoming Apple technicians. Don’t expect to see Grandma in the Apple store though, you may see her active on Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp and hopefully not on Tinder !

They makes things slick.

Based in the United States. “The leader of the free world”. Their financial stats, stock market leverage and the constant desire to freshen up their products is why they reign supreme. The iPhone is far from a trend now, it is a way of life.

They’re not satisfied with mass production of one product though. Laptops, tablets, smart watches, what are they plotting next ?

Back in 2020 Director, Rian Johnson made the statement: “Apple, they let you use iPhones in movies, but – and this is very pivotal – if you’re ever watching a mystery movie, bad guys cannot have iPhones on camera,” he told the magazine Vanity Fair. No villains with an iPhone must be the stance then, I’ll bear that in mind next time I’m heading to the ballot box.

The constant reliance on mobile devices but specifically the iPhone for daily living is mind boggling ; alarm clock, phone calls, messages, FaceTime, emails, calculator, reminders, music. The list is endless and it is all in your pocket. They are often the first thing we see in the morning and the last of the evening. The harshness of blue light on our well being is a fairly recent discovery. The impact they are having on our relationships is a matter of your opinion.

Since 1990 Apple Inc have made political contributions of $16,122,017 & since 1998 reported lobbying of a whopping $68,683,008. Revolving door is my stance.

39 out of 44 Apple Inc lobbyists in 2022 have previously held government jobs.

51 out of 56 Apple Inc lobbyists in 2021 have previously held government jobs.

Since 1990 Alphabet Inc (parent company of Google) have made political contributions of $50,596,131 & since 1998 reported lobbying of $109,230,000. Once again revolving door is my stance.

62 out of 75 Alphabet Inc lobbyists in 2022 have previously held government jobs.

82 out of 97 Alphabet Inc lobbyists in 2021 have previously held government jobs.

This is all in the public domain on http://www.opensecrets.org

We all choose to use them, thus electing their politicians into these powerful positions. Big tech are deciding who proceeds to the ballot sheet.

The benefits of these companies are clear to see. The consequences? We are only just beginning to scratch the surface.
